Congratulations and Welcome!

As you can see, I did not designate Varsity and JV Cheer squads tonight, and I want to explain why.

After tallying the scores—which were very much in line with my projections—there was a natural break in scores after the top eight candidates.  In my mind these eight clearly met the level I expect from a Varsity squad. There is then a clear break in scores, leaving ten additional candidates who would currently fall into the JV range.

However, we still have one athlete trying out next week, as well as a three-year returner who will be trying out next month. In addition, we typically see several new candidates join in the fall who were not enrolled during the spring.

Because of this, I am hesitant to simply move the next group of athletes up to Varsity in order to reach a minimum goal of 12 members. Instead, I believe it will be more beneficial to begin with a few practices together before making final placement decisions. This process will allow for a more comprehensive and fair evaluation.

I appreciate everyone’s patience, effort, and commitment throughout this process. Final squad selections will be made once we have had sufficient time to observe everyone in a practice setting and to ensure that we are assembling the strongest possible team.

This will also allow us to move forward with our squad orientation and fundraising events as scheduled. We can begin making plans for uniforms and kick things off before the school year ends!  Because of the quick turnaround, the following events will be mandatory—so get ready to jump right in.

The upcoming mandatory dates are as follows:

1. Monday, 4/27 – Fundraising Field Trip (American Idol Taping #1)

1. Wednesday, 4/29 – New Squad Orientation & Uniform Fitting

1. Monday, 5/4 – Fundraising Field Trip (American Idol Taping #2)

Great news for our BVMS students (incoming 8th graders): you are already covered under your athletic clearances and will be dismissed early to attend Monday’s event. We’re excited to have you all there!

I will be emailing you all more specifics about the fieldtrip tomorrow!!
